Is the Lake Huron High School diploma a "real" diploma?

Yes, Lake Huron Virtual and Hybrid High School is approved by the Michigan Department of Education and the New Haven Community Schools Board of Education to award a diploma based on the student meeting the standards of the Michigan Merit Curriculum, the Michigan High School Content Expectations, and the National Common Core Standards.

How do I earn credit?

Each course in the Lake Huron curriculum is described on the "Courses" page.  Courses are all described as online experiences in THE REAL WORLD. Each course takes you through experiences that enable you to master learning through real-world experiences.

How do I communicate with my teachers, my mentor, and my fellow students?

Every course has a discussion board accessed from the home page. This is where you can post questions to your teacher, communicate with your mentor, and discuss issues of the course with other students. You will also have access to an email link within every course to allow you
to privately talk to your teachers and your school mentor. Because Lake Huron High also is a HYBRID school, you will have the option of coming to a site where you can meet your teachers face-to-face, participate in activities with the group, use a physical lab, or complete proctored exams. At Lake Huron High, you are not left to just work in the cyber world.

Will I be graded on assignments?

Teachers will assess your projects with a rubric which will be posted to guide you in each course. These rubrics explain how each assignment will be graded. You will know the expected learning outcomes or objectives and through real-life, applied-learning experiences, you will document your proof of mastery learning for those outcomes.

When do I have to be online?

Although each course will be comprised of learning modules that must be completed on a specified timeframe, you will have the flexibility of getting online whenever it fits into your schedule and the best times for you to leave the computer and experience learning off-line with projects and applied learning experiences.

How often do I have to "go to school"?

For you, "school" will be the world around you rather than a traditional classroom. You can choose to attend Saturday Seminars to work with the teacher face-to-face or to seek face-to-face support. You will only be required to attend one Saturday Seminar per quarter (four a year) for proctored tests.
